Cleaning Inside of Cabinet Cleaning Inside of Cabinet Hot

Cleaning the inside of a pinball cabinet is always a challenge because while this is typically one of the dirtiest areas on any game you need to minimize the amount of water the wood is exposed to.  The best solution I've found is to use a foam carpet cleaner.  My preference is Resolve High Traffic Foam and a stiff bristle scrub brush.

Spray the foam on the inside area of the cabinet and then scrub briskly with the brush.  You can use a couple of brush sizes to help reach corners and other hard to reach areas.  Work a small area, maybe two feet square, and then wipe down with a cloth to pick up any remaining foam and moisture.  The carpet cleaner also works well on wire bundles, just use a paint brush instead of the bristle brush and wrap any connectors with blue painter's tape to keep them dry.

Avoid spraying any electronic parts, like flipper control boards, that are installed inside the cabinet.  Once you're done leave the pinball open so any remaining moisture in the wood is allowed to evaporate.  Images 1-4 provide some before and after pictures using this technique on a Data East Hook pinball.

Note: Some of the high end restoration ships will sand the entire inside of the cabinet to get it back to like new condition.
